Two happy international students

Kairanga School is a 180 student co-educational school taking students from 5 to 13 years of age through the full eight years of their primary schooling. The school is set in expansive grounds close to many EOTC facilities: Kairanga wetland, the beautiful Foxton Beach, Tararua Ranges, Manawatu River, adjacent sheep and dairy farmland, not far from the volcanic mountains of the Central Plateau, and other quality sports facilities.

We have become signatories for the International Student Code of Conduct, allowing us to have some International fee-paying students.

Kairanga is a reputable school that runs quality educational programmes which attract interest from the professional education community. Our programmes deliver rich learning experiences for our students where the development of thinking skills is a feature. Kairanga School is among a minority of New Zealand Schools to achieve a four-to-five year review cycle from the Education Review Office. The school’s Board of Trustees received a letter of acknowledgement from the Minister of Education in 2016 to congratulate them on this achievement.

Pastoral Care: Kairanga School has excellent structures in place for ensuring students are well cared for and is a signatory to the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016. Being a family-oriented school means we care about you and all our children. We do our best to welcome and connect with you. Learning the Language International students at Kairanga School receive ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) support following an assessment of their English ability. Trained ESOL personnel work with students both in, and outside the classroom. Students with very little English also have the option of attending.

Homestay Accommodation: Our International Students may be placed in homestay accommodation in the local community, usually close to the school. Homes are carefully chosen and monitored by our homestay co-ordinator throughout the year. Students may contact the co-ordinator at any time if they need help and advice. Kairanga School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Each student can be met at the airport and introduced to their homestay family and the school by an orientation programme facilitator. EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) Education. We believe strongly in giving real meaning to our classroom learning. This means taking learning into the real world as much as is possible.

We create times for pupils to connect their classroom learning with rich tasks that promote understanding. This means that sometimes there are trips to local facilities (wetland, sports facilities), or further afield, to the great outdoors. In this way, we promote the development of the whole child: academic, physical and social.
