Principal’s Message

Nau Mai, Haere Mai. Welcome to Kairanga School

JAMES REA, Kairanga School Principal

Kairanga School is a well resourced rural school just minutes from Palmerston North City boundary. Our country school culture is something that families find attractive and is consistently recognised as a driving factor in their choice to join our community.

With seven vibrant and recently refurbished classrooms our tamariki love to come to school each day. We understand that the relationship between the students and teacher (kaiako) is essential in developing lifelong learners (akonga) who have the tools and knowledge to be successful in education and life. For this reason our modern curriculum is designed around one class and a key teacher.

Our experienced teaching staff are well supported with the BOT actively funding resources and professional development opportunities that ensure our local curriculum is engaging and exceeds the basic expectations of NZ curriculum. The BOT also funds a pool of highly skilled Teaching Assistants who support our learning program. This is particularly targeted at our junior classes ensuring our akonga have the very best possible start to their schooling.

Our school is also fortunate to have a range of additional resources such as a large playing field, cycle path, trees to climb, large fort, sealed playing court, large library and media space, access to tennis courts and well planted nature reserve. Many of these resources are provided through a productive partnership between the Board of Trustees and the Home and School fundraising committee.

With our managed school enrolment zone we aspire to ensure that all class ratios are kept optimal, where strong relationships and a sense of belonging will flourish.  With 160-180 students we can still ensure there are enough students for us to participate at a high level in a wide range of sporting and cultural activities.

Our school prides itself on its strong community partnerships and family focused atmosphere. We look forward to making a connection with you and your whanau.
